Theft from the diesel tanks of trucks and vehicles is increasing due to the extremely high diesel prices. We are talking about 50 cases in the first 2 months of this year alone. The diesel tank is getting emptied at night or during the weekend by criminals. The trade association says it is receiving more and more signals from drivers.

This often involves thefts of many hundreds of litres of fuel. The damage is even greater when, for example, holes are being drilled in the tank. This happens not only in the Netherlands, but also in Belgium and Northern France, according to TLN.

No longer safe

The trade association TLN states thefts occur at parking and service areas along the highway, but also at transport companies and local industrial estates. Parking somewhere unguarded for a weekend is no longer safe.

Because the locations where it happen are diverse, it is difficult for the police to take preventive actions. The police therefore advises that companies and drivers should be alerted to these types of thefts in the coming period.
