WEC Lines will start a shortsea connection between Moerdijk and Casablanca this month. The shipping company has set up a weekly scheduled service between the Brabant port and the Moroccan capital.

The Euro-Maroc service was launched by WEC Lines at the end of August, and since November a weekly stop has also been made in Moerdijk on the way to Morocco. For the shipping company, the connection between Moerdijk and Casablanca is an extension of existing scheduled services between the Netherlands and Spain. The route previously went from Rotterdam and Antwerp to Casablanca. Stops in France, Portugal and Spain were added in mid-September.

For Port of Moerdijk, the expansion of the scheduled service fits in with the ambitions to grow as a shortsea port. The port emphasizes that the stop in Montoir, France, in particular deserves attention. “This offers an environmentally friendly alternative to road transport to the west of France,” says logistics manager Kyra Lemmens.
