The South Korean state-controlled Korea Development Bank wants to sell its 20.7% stake in container shipping company HMM, the South Korean press has reported.
Roughly 45% of HMM is currently still owned by organizations linked to the South Korean government, a result of a 2016 operation to ensure the continued existence of the container company, which was in financial trouble at the time. Now the South Koreans would like to put the container shipping company back on its own two feet.
Media reports in South Korea mention numerous companies that could take over Korea Development Bank’s stake. These include Hyundai Glovis, which specializes in car logistics, the steel manufacturer Posco, shipping company SM and the logistics companies CJ Group and LX Group.
